Terry Downs was born and raised in Potosi, Wisconsin and many of his paintings reflect the farming community in which he grew up.
After first contemplating a career as a commercial artist, he instead became an instructor. For the past 14 years, he's taught art class to high school students in Potosi. His teachings have helped to influence his own compositions.
Also influencing his work has been his children. In fact, he often finds a way to incorporate his children into his artwork.
Initially Downs used watercolors in composing his works. Yet, he soon turned to oil as it gave him the ability to experiment as he worked and added texture to his scenes. In particular, he loved the way oil could make the clothing looked worn and lived in.
Five years ago the artist self published his first limited edition print, "There's No Place Like Home." Each years he's released a new limited addition print and art lovers throughout the country now eagerly collect his work.
